Most of us can relate to how energised we feel coming out of certain meetings - sometimes we emerge feeling energised and light, other times deflated and heavy.
At Strengths Unleashed, our mission is to partner with leaders to create energising companies that accelerate performance. We know from research the benefits of a highly energised workforce include greater productivity, effective decision making, leader retention, reduced burnout and sickness, and ultimately improved company performance.
For many years, we have been using data and insights to help leaders get the best out of their people. A key part of our assessment and coaching methodology is helping people understand where their energy comes from, where their energy goes and where best they can apply their energy.
Recently, we were invited by Leadership Circle to take a look at BRITE, a new team assessment instrument that measures the levels of energy within teams and organisations. With 97% of executives believing poor alignment between team members impacts a project’s outcome, helping teams and organisations understand the reasons behind poor alignment and low energy couldn’t be more important.
The 5 elements of Team Effectiveness
BRITE measures five critical elements contributing to team success:
Sharing Mindsets - teams with a shared understanding of who the team is and what they will be pursuing together are more effective
Building the right structure - successful teams are built on a thriving team culture with diverse and capable individuals
Creating safety and cohesion - an environment where members feel safe to take personal risks and actively support one another. This is essential for team effectiveness.
Processing Processes - The most effective teams process information through quality interactions, resulting in actively engaged members and the creation of new ideas
Producing Results - Teams that are agile in performing tasks and are accountable for outcomes drive organisational success.
To get to this framework, Leadership Circle surveyed over 26,000 global teams, assessed teams from an internal and external perspective and leveraged 30+ years of experience working with leaders to validate the framework.
BRITE refers to “Energy Generators” and “Energy Disrupters” that can be found in teams - these can be structural or behavioural in nature. Energy Generators increase the flow of energy in the team and foster positive team dynamics and include belief in team efficacy and sharing team goals. Energy Disruptors, conversely drain energy and often lead to team dysfunction - they include bringing an overly negative attitude, creating a silo mentality and blaming others.
BRITE is a fast, easy to use survey instrument, taking 20-25 minutes to complete using an anonymous link. Results are delivered directly to a coach, a team lead, or both - depending on client needs. Actionable, human-centric insights help improve the team dynamic.
Strengths Unleashed’s founder, Andrew Dyckhoff, was one of the first people to be trained in the BRITE tool outside of Leadership Circle and is thrilled to be partnering with Leadership Circle to bring BRITE and the insights it uncovers to the UK market. We look forward to helping more teams be more energised and successful.
