CASE STUDY: DRIVING BUSINESS PERFORMANCE
Driving business performance in a Big 4 accounting firm: a strengths-based approach
As a market leader with long-standing client relationships, the firm stood to lose the most from new regulations. It was clear the organisation had not fully appreciated the threat or “owned the problem”. Both a new mind-set and a new way of working were needed.
Staff engagement scores leapt. Turnover is up 9% and profits up by more. The threat has become an opportunity. The managing partner commented: “The transformation across our whole business has been nothing short of remarkable”.
HOW WE MADE IT HAPPEN
25 partners in the senior leadership team were assessed using a strengths-based instrument benchmarked against a database of 100,000+ business leaders around the world.
The results were shared with the Exec team as a key input to the transformation process
Using the data, we identified individual and collective strengths. This led to a clear understanding of how best they could contribute as individuals and how they could come together in powerful multi-strength teams.
We created detailed plans that harnessed natural talents, built on existing strengths and addressed areas of weakness where the organisation needed the leaders to be strong.
An action plan using tried and tested methods to shift others’ perceptions was agreed.
A Merryck & Co. mentor worked with the managing partner and facilitated a top team learning journey to peak their performance.
The newly energised Exec team cascaded their learning into the wider leadership team to drive home how the organisation’s focus was to change.
A focus on selling, excellence and utilising strengths was extended throughout the business.
